When Words Aren’t Enough, Creativity Can Help You Find a Way Through

Art psychotherapy is a specialist, clinically trained form of psychotherapy that uses creativity, art materials and the therapeutic relationship to help you explore thoughts, feelings and experiences in a gentle, client-led way. It is recognised and used within many specialist health and mental health services, offering a different way of working when experiences can feel difficult to put into words. Art can provide a safe container for emotions, allowing what may have been held or felt within the body to be explored carefully, bringing greater awareness to parts of your internal world that may previously have remained outside of conscious understanding.

You do not need to be ‘good at art’ and there is no expectation to create something aesthetically beautiful. The artwork is not the focus or something to be judged; rather, the creative process provides an opportunity to become curious, playful and expressive with materials, at your own pace. With Carly’s skilled therapeutic guidance, this can support you to gently process experiences, develop greater self-understanding and begin to move forward in a way that feels safe and manageable.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

Taking the First Step

Choosing to reach out for therapy can feel like a big step. It can take courage to consider sharing your experiences with someone new, and finding the right therapist — someone you feel comfortable with, understood by and safe with — is an important part of that process.

If you choose to book an initial consultation with Carly, there is no pressure and no expectation to know exactly what you need from therapy. The conversation is gentle, confidential and client-led, giving you the space to talk a little about what you have been experiencing, ask questions and get a sense of whether Carly feels like the right therapist for you.

Carly understands the sensitivity and vulnerability involved in reaching out and placing your trust in someone. With a compassionate, warm and understanding approach, she will meet you where you are, without judgement, allowing you to take things at your own pace.

Sometimes the first step is simply saying, “I think I might need some support.” You don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out.
